a dance for one

this morning i took my first peek at the new lover lookbook.  lover is probably my most favourite brand, i have gone great distances physically, emotionally, and financially (hehe) to secure purchases in the past and i am sure that this collection will be a similar story.  i love so many of the pieces - it will be hard to choose! The silhouettes and colour palette are totally in keeping with what i am wanting to wear at the moment - how does lover keep reading my mind!?

double exposure

this week dan mountford has provided me with endless inspiration.  Double exposures within the shots happen 'in camera' and then he uses photo editing software to further enhance them into beautiful finished images as shown below.  I love the mix of analogue and digital technology in his pieces, something I have been considering a lot lately in the current state of architectural education and practice.  I think that it is equally important to master both physical and digital tools of production, manifestation and communication within architecture and design at large.  In order to arrive at the best outcome, it is important to be able to throw into the ring whatever technique is best suited to achieving the end result, regardless of how archaic. no?

Anecdote -  I went to by perspex today to make a model and the lady at the checkout said " I didn't think architects ever made models anymore.  I thought they did everything on super high tech expensive computer systems that are invented by astronauts".  I had so many responses racing through my head, what a funny thing to say!  Crazy! ...and ended up just saying "yeah, pretty much...".

Kate Nash

kate nash by concrete playground. way fun.

True genius

Yes, it is true. I have a massive crush on Jeff Bridges. His roles in the Big Lebowski and Tron are fantastic and entirely memorable, and his latest character in True Grit certainly did not disappoint.

My adoration grew even stronger after realizing that before becoming an actor, Mr. Bridges had a passion for photography that lasted through his career and is still in full flight! During the making of True Grit he took a set of beautiful shots on a Widelux panoramic camera. He keeps the most delightful project diary on his website - what a man! My obsession grows.

p.s. Hailee Steinfeld at the Baftas. So cute! (She wore a Miu Miu black ricamo duchesse dress with a crystal embroidered bodice and peplum waist).  I would not have worn a lavender bag with it - but I like it on her, I think it's fun and makes the look much more age appropriate!

13.2.11

i would like to share one of my favourite love songs with you on this most lovely and delightful of valentine's days.  this cover is sung by a band that i saw with edward at one of the first music festivals we attended together, the killers.  it will never be the same as dire straits, but it is still beautiful.

play it loud and hard, lovers!

Rodarte & Elle

wow. Elle Fanning is adorable! I especially love the third look.
"This is a proper film in which something is always about to happen, even if it doesn’t (but it does). Everything is normal, nothing explicable... And holy Elle Fanning! Flaxen-haired and angel-countenanced, she holds your gaze so tightly and so carelessly, the way most girls hold dandelions" - SNP

busy bee!!!

I've been such a bus bee lately, wanting to post so many things but always on the go to do something else more pressing.  This is a reminder for me to post some things - a patchwork quilt I've been lovely working on/ neglecting the boy over (!), some photos that i've edited for my portfolio, a large oil painting I've been commissioned over, and some other craft projects!
Also, I must post some lovely vintage pieces we found on our beach-side holiday up the coast a fortnight ago.
much to do! must be off!

true love and happy endings/beginnings

My beautiful friend Nicola is a talented florist, and her blog is not only full of lovely, cheery things but always brings a smile to my face.
A little (wee) while ago she had a ridiculously beautiful wedding with her Scottish prince, which incidentally fell on the same day as my anniversary, and was a reminder of the joy and beauty of life - that anything is possible and fairy tale romance is real!

silhouette

I don't remember where I found this image, but I think that it is lovely. Especially the sleeves.

rockaway

I'm pretty sure that I've watched this on youtube about one thousand times.  It's probably my ideal fantasy to run a cafe in a collective and inspirational and chilled out setting like this.  Maybe I could also show my art there in the cafe?  Maybe edward could have an extra nook to roast coffee? Maybe I could make all sorts of delicious seasonal dishes and treats?! maybe some friends that like cooking could also do cameos!!!!?!?! Maybe some days when it is amazing down at the surf we could just shut up shop and have a sign saying "cafe moved to the beach"!?!?! I want a bee hive on my roof!!!!
 yes.

beach house

last night i was swept away to angel place to see beach house as part of the sydney festival.  It was such a beautiful performance, and my first time to hear Victoria Legrand’s haunting vocals in real life!

I loved the simple stage set with glittery spinning cubes that hovered all around the stage.  Also, as it was in the recital hall from time to time i enjoyed turning around and seeing the play of lights and reflections throughout the triple height space.

tHe horse

I recently added a third pair of shoes to my collection from local brand tHe horse.
Their shoes are not only the very most comfortable but are also oh so beautiful.
I have also fallen in love with some images from their Autumn/Winter 2011 lookbook, I have added a couple below.

Stella McCartney Pre- Fall 2011

moutain man

last week I was lucky enough to surprised by  le boyfriend with tickets to see the band mountain man at the spiegeltent.  Their beautiful harmonies have been flying around in my head ever since.

Steven Alan

I adore Steven Alan's Spring 2011 collection - these are some of my favourite looks.  The neutrals along with select pastels and punches of bright colour is such a treat.

23.1.11

hand made zines

how cute are these illustrations? the first is Beef Knuckles, a collaborative effort, and Telephone & Me by Mel Stringer and the second Pages from Fly Away Bird.
Perhaps this year I might bundle up my own illustrations into a zine...

sunday

what a delightful sunday!  Started off with an Israeli FEAST at Shenkin with Edward and some of his coffee buddies.  After shaking off the caffeine overload we (accidentally) marathon shopped at magnation.  I went in for a magazine that it turned out they don't have and came out with three others! Stella (amazing first edition magazine), Detail (Architecture magazine) on re-use of products and Oh Comely magazine (which I'm sure will be a new favourite for many editions to come!)
This devine shopping experience was followed by a quick surf at Narrabean, reading in the sun and eating prawns for lunch! I wish it would last forever.

Oh comely magazine - a new love!

rings on my fingers and bells on my toes (and flowers in my hair)

Loving my new Jordy By Jordan Askill triple heart ring and thinking it would be lovely to wear with a flower garland in my hair today...(this picture is not me, I don't know where it's from - but the garland is pretty much what I want to be wearing!!!)

Inspired by fashionable bike riders lately.
My bike (above) is beautiful in its leather upholstered, 8 gear glory - I get so tired riding it that I don't think I keep up my end of the deal!  My Resolution is to look more expert when riding! Come riding with me!

Swedish Summer

I always like to keep an eye on what is going on in topshop world.  The lookbooks for each new season provide me entertainment and inspiration on what might be going on in the northern hemisphere.
There are a couple of key pieces that I have in my sights at the moment including this denim shirt dress (despite the fact that I get consistantly disappointed by the quality of the manufacture of my purchases at topshop I keep going back, in hope that it will be better next time!)... and the lookbook for 'swedish summer' - so cute, and the colour palette is exciting and the textures are interesting.  While it is unlikely at this stage that I will purchase from this collection, it will definitely inspire some fun and naive creativity in my next shopping trip!

7.1.11

6 more months of architecture study and then i'll be free to explore and travel the world!  I can't wait!
This photo I took while flying over Santiago.
I must say that I'm loving being in Sydney at the moment - so many exciting things are on the cards for the month/s ahead.

Bright Star

"I almost wish we were butterflies and liv'd but three summer days - three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain." — John Keats
Every time I watch Bright Star I fall in love with Keats all over again!
