I am often skeptical about parametric design - asking why/ what a certain design decision is made and what, asside from looking good, does it give the proposal. Mostly, I feel that that's where it ends, in looking good. Occasinally I come across something that I think really works. This design proposal for a contemporary city bench seeks to understand the concept of street furniture as a holistic design problem. Instead of offering only one single static design, this scheme suggests multiple varying solutions that meet specific criteria. By taking the cross section of the desired functions, the bench/seat/bin/planter blends the sections into a beautiful slug.
